My dad is in the hospital now and he needs to get one.Has anyone had any problems with it.What happens if it gets full of clots, and do you still have to take coumadin and lovealocs.The doc says he has to take it for the rest of his life.He also has Factor 5 proteins.

Sorry - never heard of it.

Because he is on coumadin and lovealocs(blood thinners) he will not clot any more:they put one in to be sure that no clots reach his brain..
They wo not take that risk.But on these meds he will make no more clots
He will be fine.

Yes as a matter of fact l have had one in since Jan 96. l was in the hospital for one surgery(brain)and one the 6 day was released. l was home for two & on the second day had to go back because of clots in my lower left leg. l was 39 then had l not had the brain surgery l would not be here today. After l went back to have the filter put in, they was given me all those blood thinning meds, draw blood & check the clot facter.. It was a pain in the arm about every 4 hours. l have not taken any meds for blood since then & have had more surgery is on the brain. they have to be very care full. Even had one hernia operation was not put to sleep for it. l have had more troubles with other things but none with the filter. Each time l go into the Doc for something l have a card which l had laminated & l show it to them. even if l go to the dentist. l let them know about it. That is something he should do also just to protect is own interest. l do take other meds to this day. But not for the blood as of yet. My left leg is still bigger than my right but had l not went back in the clot would have gotten me. A local teacher just passed away from a clot in is lung on Wednesday. Best be as safe as u can.
